Many people consider it a sign of mental health for men to have masculine traits and for women to display feminine traits. Which traits are masculine and which are feminine may vary from society to society and culture to culture. However, in a society, certain traits are considered masculine and are predominantly seen in men. Similarly, certain traits are considered feminine in a society and are predominantly seen in women.

Men and women who fall outside this social definition are often the target of mild criticism. Men who display feminine traits are criticized as 'machia', while women who display masculine traits are praised as 'andirachandi'. It may be an easy natural tendency for women to display socially assigned masculine traits.

The tendency to categorize femininity and masculinity into distinct sets of qualities is more or less common in all societies. Observing this, many sociologists have given different names to these two aspects. Some sociologists have labeled the importance of work as masculine, while others have labeled the dominance of emotional expression as feminine. Some have considered the trend of individualistic self-development as masculine, while others have given the dignity of collective-progressive sensitivity as feminine. In other languages

Femininity, Masculinity and Personality

 Femininity, Masculinity and Personality

It is said that men are considered to be angelic, independent, ambitious, intellectual and adventurous. Women are considered to be soft, deep, soft-spoken, empathetic and relatable.

Although traditional views have been strong in many societies for a long time, in modern times a new concept has emerged regarding femininity, masculinity and personality. The possibility that a high level of personality can be achieved by harmoniously combining feminine and masculine qualities in a particular person has given a new definition to personality. If a person is a man, his masculine qualities along with feminine cooperative mentality and sensitivity make him a person of high personality. Similarly, if the person is a woman, the combination of his feminine qualities with high aspirations and determination makes his personality more expressive.

This possibility of high personality was first noticed by some psychologists. They discovered the possibility while doing research at the university on the prevailing masculine and feminine qualities in society. The researchers asked undergraduate students to prepare four lists. The first list was asked to take the qualities or adjectives that are most often seen in women and are considered fair to women in society. The second list was asked to write the adjectives that are most often seen in men and are considered fair to men in society. The third list was asked to mention the qualities that are seen in women but are attractive to both men and women. Similarly, the fourth list was asked to name the qualities that are seen in men but are fair to both men and women.

The first and second lists were not that special. The purpose of these two lists was to provide information on feminine and masculine qualities by challenging the prevailing stereotypes of society. As a result, it was found that the characteristics that are commonly considered feminine and masculine in society are found in these two lists. The first list included adjectives such as family-oriented, protective, religious, tearful, and reserved. In the second list, most of the students had adjectives such as self-reliant, possessive, enthusiastic about machines, and interested in mathematics and science.

The third and fourth lists were two special ones. The adjectives included in the third list were kind, socially sensitive, resourceful, creative, charitable, child-loving, understanding, soft-spoken, and engaged in other services. In the fourth list, independent
Active, outgoing, ambitious, confident, intelligent, capable of leadership, sporty, adventurous and brave etc. were found. It is worth noting that the third and fourth listed adjectives are generally positive. Most of the good adjectives were indicated as desirable for both men and women.

For example - although activity and ambition are usually seen in men, they were considered desirable for both groups. That is, an active and ambitious woman was indicated as better than an inactive and unambitious woman. Similarly, a man with the trait of being empathetic and indirect was noted as more respectable. Very few adjectives were found to be desirable for a specific group (women or men). For example, only men are adventurous and only women are family-oriented. In general, there are many qualities that are common to both men and women. Such qualities can be called personality traits.

Personality traits are a characteristic concept in our society. This concept was born from the gap between the conventional woman and man and the ideal woman and man that is commonly seen in society. Not only that, whether a man or a woman, it can be determined to what extent these personality traits are present in him. According to that, the extent to which that person is a personality will be determined.

Subsequent research has also shown that the amount of personality traits affects the behavior of a person. A person with personality traits or a person achieves greater efficiency and maintains harmony in various areas of life.

is able to do. For example, a person who is socially sensitive can be strong and logical along with being socially sensitive and empathetic. Such a woman achieves success in various fields.

Similarly, a person who is socially sensitive increases his success by combining sociality and sensitivity with his social ambition and independent mind. Indirectly, a conservative woman always becomes dependent and emotional, creating obstacles in the development of her talent. A conservative man always emphasizes power and freedom, does not express his emotions and does not form sociality, and loses a lot of joy in life. The degree of efficiency and high self-esteem of people is observed from the observation of personable qualities or behavior.

Of course, research is not new. Although in a society as change-oriented as Indian society, it cannot be said with certainty that a person who brings together the qualities of both women and men will achieve success everywhere. However, the possibility of a person freeing himself from the knots of the prevailing fixed concepts of femininity and masculinity and getting a taste of a broader life is quite high. Femininity, Masculinity and Personalit
